Key achievements
NHS Subgroup
Student Champions Network
Every 6 weeks representatives from both University’s, 3 hospital trusts, the CCG, and Tier 2 mental health services attend the NHS subgroup virtually. It has worked really well as a means for the University’s and NHS Trusts to provide updates and to feedback on any progress of the project.
Key teams in the trust have allocated Student Champions who attend regular meetings with staff from both Universities where they share experiences and good practice, receive student-focused awareness training and act as a direct link into the service.
Workshops with Combined Health Care
The outcomes of these include:
Monthly Interface meetings taking place between the University’s, Community Mental Health Teams. Gp’s and IAPT
Key Teams at both universities now have direct access to the Access Team via the Professionals number
Standard student referral form has been developed and is being piloted imminently by both University’s, this includes a risk assessment and a consent to share section.
The universities will be included in discharge planning when a student has been admitted to the hospital and communication pathways have improved.
We are also working collaboratively on standardised communication pathways when students have been assessed by the Mental Health Liaison Team.
What’s Next
Awareness sessions are being planned to be delivered by CASTT to student support staff at both Universities about Personality Disorders and the importance of working within boundaries. The Early Intervention Team have also agreed to deliver similar sessions after the new ARMS (At Risk Mental States) initiative is implemented.
Ian Munton, Paula Dalziel and 2 student representatives from Staffordshire University are now included on a number of MPFT workstreams as part of the transformation of their Community Mental Health Services. These meetings are due to commence imminently. This has allowed an opportunity for University students to be represented at the beginning of service development.
There are plans for a workshop to take place over the next couple of months with UHNM, with the purpose of raising awareness about the support available at the Universities for students on placements within the Trust. Click here to find out about work taking place to support healthcare students.
