VR Coaching for Students

Our Coaching Officer, Mike is exploring the use of VR technology to support student self-development. The aim is to get students to create virtual environments and use them as part of a coaching process, with a longer term vision of developing an expanding learning platform.

Think of the film Ready Player One, but rather than using VR technology to find clues within a hidden game, we hope to use this tech to help the individual to develop focus, attention and calm through serious gaming. There are many real world benefits of this, particularly in the field of mental health, where a new era of VR therapy is emerging. The area of interest for this specific strand of work, VR Coaching is new and innovative.

The development of mind-controlled games using VR have been explored internationally, examples include car drag racing and solving Rubik’s cubes using wireless headsets that monitors your brain activity and translates EEG into meaningful data you can understand e.g. moving the car or rotating the sides of the Rubik’s cube. Researchers from Taiwan have also used an EEG headset to control a Lego robot based on neutral and mental states.

Mike will use Looxid Labs technology to develop a virtual coaching environment for students based on self-development and wellbeing.
