Foundation Year Peer Mentor Scheme Launched

Foundation Year students at Keele University are now offered support from a Peer Mentor (a student that has previously completed their foundation year). This provides new students with quick and easy access to getting any transition based questions answered.

Peer Mentors have been trained to refer on to our FY Support Officer should they identify that the student may need additional support beyond the peer mentoring programme.

There are numerous benefits for new students accessing peer mentoring:

  • Receive support from an experienced student.

  • Help through periods of transition.

  • Guidance on academic queries.

  • Build networks within the Keele community.

  • Increases confidence.

  • Provides a first point of contact for support questions.

  • Advice from a student who has already experienced the Foundation Year.

The Foundation Year peer mentoring programme has been running since the beginning of September and is showing good signs of engagement. All new Foundation Year students have been provided with information on how to access the support of a peer mentor, and the initiative is already seeing a number of new students signing up to access the platform and ask questions to the peer mentors.

The scheme will continue to be promoted throughout the welcome period, and it is hoped that students will engage with ongoing peer mentoring at key points throughout the academic year.
