Staffordshire University launches the ‘Start to Success’ project
By Lydia Johnson
As part of University Mental Health Day 2020, Staffordshire University launched Start to Success.
The event was attended by over 200 people from across the University and included a series of interactive stands aimed at both staff and students, encouraging them to share more about our exciting initiative. Partner organisations such as North Staffs Mind and Changes were also in attendance with stands at the event.
Staffordshire’s Director of Library and Student Services, Ian Munton, showcased a ‘Start to Success’ introductory presentation outlining the project, its core objectives and future plans. He was also joined by Portia Bentley (Student Equality Co-Ordinator), Sally-Ann Mellor (Senior Lecturer in Law) and Rob Edge (Student ODP) who shared their own story and journey with mental health.

Finally, Gemma Kelly, Student Success Coordinator, delivered a presentation on building Student resilience, Staffordshire University’s Enhancement Theme for this 2019/20 Academic Year.
Other activities throughout the day included ‘Dog Destress Event’ which hosted guide dogs in the Library and Row Britannia, where we saw staff and students across the University completing one mile on a rowing machine. Row Britannia is an inclusive (adaptive sport) mental health, fitness and wellbeing challenge by The British Inspiration Trust (BRIT), for teams throughout the UK to raise vital funds and positive awareness.
